“Integrated Territorial Synergies for Children Health and Protection II”

In the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme “Interreg V-A Greece -Bulgaria” 2014-2020, the Organization “The Smile of the Child”, in the role of Lead partner, along with the rest partners from Greece the Municipal Development Agency οf Komotini Municipality and from Bulgaria: the Nadja Centre Foundation, Sandanski Branch and the Regional Inspectorate of Education - Blagoevgrad continues the successful implementation of the project entitled "Integrated Territorial Synergies for Children Health and Protection II" - INTERSYC II ", effectively contributing to the treatment of Covid-19 pandemic through the implementation of a series of actions such as:

● Voluntary Blood Donation Actions in close cooperation of all partners with public authorities such as Municipalities & National Hospitals in cross border areas in Greece and Bulgaria.

● Provision of psychological & social support to children and families affected by the Covid-19 crisis: in Greece, the provision of psychological & social support will be provided via the operalization of the European Helpline 116111, operated by LB ‘The Smile of the Child’ with experts psychologists, available for every child & adult for the provision of support on issues of their concern. In Bulgaria, the provision of psychological support will be provided online via the use of existing digital platform managed by specialists-psychologists, aiming at provision of support, advice and referrals to other relevant institutions.

● Purchase of necessary Medical Equipment with the purpose of strengthening National Health Systems in cross border level, especially in remote areas. The new medical equipment : οn the one hand will supplement the existing one medical mobile unit of intensive care of infants & children purchased in the context of the project INTERSYC II in the previous implementation period , for its more efficient operation and utilization in order to respond better in dealing with the needs of Covid-19 crisis and on the other will strengthen and upgrade at least two more existing medical mobile units of the organization “The Smile of the Child” , which will be used as first aid stations during the implementation of Voluntary Blood Donor Actions in the eligible areas and at the same time will be set at the disposal of relevant public authorities for the urgent transfer of patients who belong at risk and vulnerable groups ,residing in cross border areas dealing with any health problems.

● Lecturing/training sessions addressed to school psychologists & teachers, aiming at educating them for gaining specific knowledge, competences and skills on how to act around Covid-19 and viral infections in order to be able to support and advice pupils, parents and other professionals in school communities with a proper way.

● Α campaign of information, awareness, education in relevance with Covid-19 using digital tools in Greece and Bulgaria, aiming at helping people find useful information, raising awareness of simple measures people can take to slow the spread of the disease according to the World Health Organization, protecting people from misinformation and promoting ways of management and prevention of the infection of coronavirus.

The project aims at protecting and improving the quality of life of children in the cross-border area.

The project is a continuation of the successful implementation of the first project INTERSYC, by capitalizing the results and the excellent cooperation of the first project.

The project started in September 2017 and it is estimated to end in September 2021 with total budget of 1.223.042,97€.

“Integrated Territorial Synergies for Children Health and Protection II”

The project aims at protecting and improving the quality of life of children in the cross-border area. The main actions of the project include:
● Medical examinations for 6.000 - 6.500 children in Greece and Bulgaria, with the fleet of medical vehicles and human resources of "The Smile of the Child" on both sides of the border.
● Training seminars in First Aid and the BLS/AED (Basic Life Support/Automated External Defibrillation), for professionals working with children in Greece and Bulgaria.
● Staff training in 116000 European Hotline for Missing Children operation and mobile application development to promote 116000 Hotline and to inform children and adolescents on health issues.

The following organizations participate in the partnership scheme:
● Greece: Municipal Development Agency οf Komotini Municipality
● Bulgaria: Nadja Centre Foundation, Sandanski Branch, Regional Inspectorate of Education - Blagoevgrad.

The project is a continuation of the successful implementation of the first project INTERSYC, by capitalizing the results and the excellent cooperation of the first project.

The project started in September 2017 and its duration is 24 months.
