The Organization’s Center for Online Safety presents during ECPAT’s The Code webinar
How to protect children against sexual exploitation and abuse online?
The Center for Online Safety of "The Smile of the Child", in the framework of its collaboration with ECPAT International, but also as a Local Representative of the ECPAT initiative "The CODE" (Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel) since 2021, participated on 23 April 2024 in a webinar on "How to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse online".
The webinar was mainly addressed to parents and caregivers who belong to the staff of “The Code’s”, member companies, i.e. companies in the broader travel and tourism sector, in order to support them in their various care roles to keep children safe.
Ms. Ioanna Gkika, psychologist and Coordinator of the Center, participated in the webinar, representing the Organization, with a presentation on "The psychological dimension: parents’ and caregivers’ relationship building with children and the psychological impact of the sexual exploitation online", explaining the psychological dimension and the importance of trust-building with children, in order to build a safe and caring environment.
Members of the ECPAT network from Germany, Luxembourg and Albania also participated in the seminar with presentations.
The CODE (Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism) initiative is a collaborative effort to raise awareness, provide resources and support the tourism industry in its efforts to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
